Promoting a healthy weight for Latino children and families.

Salud America! addresses an important public health problem: Latino children are more likely to be obese than other children.

Latinos suffer disproportionately from diabetes, cancer, obesity, and other health problems that affect Americans of all races and economic groups. And obesity among Latino children is an epidemic. Latino children between ages two and 19 are more overweight (39.1%) than all children (31.8%).

Established by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in 2007, Salud America! seeks to promote a healthy weight for Latino children and families by driving support healthy for changes in  their schools and communities. Researchers funded through Salud America! investigate the causes of Latino childhood obesity. The program integrates new data and findings with additional analysis, communication and education to engage a broad network of policy-makers, advocates, and others working to address obesity among Latino children.
