Field of Work: Health Impact Assessments
Problem Synopsis: Growing numbers of U.S. public health advocates aim to conduct health impact assessments (HIAs), which evaluate the potential health impact of proposed projects and policies in arenas such as transportation, housing and land-use planning. Yet HIA practitioners have been handicapped by a lack of standards and practical guidance, according to researchers at the School of Public Health at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Synopsis of the Work: Researchers at UCLA developed the Health Impact Assessment Clearinghouse Learning and Information Center (HIA-CLIC)—an interactive website designed to help planners, policy-makers and researchers use HIA.
