Dates of Program: February 2009 to February 2013
Description: Few programs to prevent intimate partner violence in immigrant and refugee communities have been evaluated and organizations offering these programs have little evaluation capacity. Strengthening What Works provided funding and technical assistance to help eight organizations evaluate their projects to prevent intimate partner violence in immigrant and refugee communities, while building their capacity to evaluate other projects in the future. An evaluation of the practices across all of the programs was conducted to understand the implications for other intimate partner violence prevention efforts.
“There can be effective programs that focus only on changing or reframing cultural norms and do not address healthy relationships, but to address healthy relationships the approach must work within changing/reframing of cultural norms to be appropriate and effective.”—Nathaniel Tashima and Cathleen Crain, national program directors at LTG Associates
